Dr. Laurie believes that success can be measured in many different ways. Though many professionals measure their success in financial terms or having the most high-tech equipment, Dr. Laurie considers herself a success quite differently. Every time she calms a fearful patient, gains someone's trust, or gets a referral - that's success. She and her entire staff strive to put people at ease and make them feel like family. We never pressure patients into getting the most expensive treatment. Our goal is to educate our patients on the risks/benefits, advantages/disadvantages and prognosis so they can choose what is best for them. Many patients put off getting dental treatment because they are ashamed. We will never shame or embarrass a patient. We treat patients with respect and work hard to help you achieve good oral health.
At the risk of sounding like a cliche, Dr. Laurie lives by the golden rule. As an example, she has some rather large, old silver fillings in her teeth. She neither wants them changed to white fillings nor does she want crowns on those teeth. And she would never try to talk a patient into such things if she felt it wasn't necessary. And when she tells a tearful child that she wouldn't do anything to them that she wouldn't do to her own son, she means it.
Another measure of Dr. Laurie's success is her staff. She thinks they're the greatest and treats them well. In exchange, they work hard, are loyal, reliable and aim to please her. We spend more time with each other than our own families, so feel it's important to have a mutual respect for one another and genuinely enjoy each other's company. We like to laugh and do so often. Dr. Laurie does not have the typical "doctor ego." She doesn't feel that she is any more important than anyone else on the team (or her patients, for that matter). We all have a role in making each patient feel welcome and help them achieve the treatment that's best for them.
If we had to choose one word to sum up our philosophy, it would have to be "ethical."
